Five-Alarm Fire Erupts Beside Claret Seminary in Quezon City, Community Rallies to Help

Sep 9, 2025 | Claret Seminary

Quezon City, Philippines. A massive fire tore through a residential area in Sitio Mabilog, Barangay Culiat, Quezon City, on the evening of September 9, 2025, reaching a five-alarm level. The blaze, which started around 7:00 or 7:30 p.m., raged just behind the Stephen Sala Building (FS Building) of Claret Seminary.

Despite the fire’s proximity, all seminarians and formators are reported to be safe. According to updates from Fr. Wigbert Papa, CMF, the seminary played a crucial role in helping firefighters contain the blaze. The seminary’s gates were opened to allow fire trucks to enter the compound, giving them a strategic vantage point to combat the flames from the seminary side. Firefighters also utilized the seminary’s water reserve, which was located right next to the fence separating the seminary from the affected community.

I was worried and concerned for our seminarians. But they are safe and even have helped enormously in providing water for the firefighters,” said Fr. Efren Decrito, CMF, the Rector of the seminary.

The fire has displaced several families. They are currently being housed temporarily at the St. Anthony Mary College. In response to the crisis, the Claret Seminary is calling on people to offer assistance to the affected families in any way they can.
