As we approach the 2025 National and Local Elections during this Jubilee Year of Hope, we—Claretian Missionaries and mission partners across the Philippines—are called to be steadfast beacons of light, truth, and moral clarity in our society. While democracy may not be perfect, it remains a powerful expression of our shared duty to build a just and compassionate future. This sacred responsibility calls us to renew our commitment to active and informed civic engagement. In particular, we must form consciences and empower voters—especially the youth and first-time electors—to choose leaders who embody integrity, uphold justice, and promote the common good. Each vote is more than a right—it is a moral decision and a faith-filled act that helps shape the direction of our nation.
The prophet Jeremiah reminds us: “For I know the plans I have for you… plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). Participating in the electoral process is not only a civic duty but a spiritual imperative. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 2246) affirms, the Church must speak out in defense of human dignity and the moral foundations of society. In this same spirit, Pope Francis teaches that “politics is a lofty form of charity” (Evangelii Gaudium, 241). Guided by these truths, we are called to safeguard the integrity of our elections by promoting responsible voter education, standing for the truth, and rejecting corrupt practices such as vote-buying and vote-selling—actions that erode the soul of democracy.
Whatever role we take on this election season—voter, candidate, public servant, volunteer, poll watcher, or supporter—we remain united in our Claretian, Christian, and Catholic identity. This identity demands that we take a bold and active stand against fake news, disinformation, and all forms of manipulation that distort the democratic process. This is not a time for silence or indifference. As Claretian missionaries and partners, we are called to be prophetic witnesses: to lead with moral courage, to challenge apathy and corruption, and to form communities rooted in Gospel values. Inspired by the life and mission of St. Anthony Mary Claret, let us ignite the fire of hope, defend truth with love, and help guide our nation toward a future built on faith, justice, and enduring integrity. Now is the time to act—with faith in our hearts, clarity in our purpose, and courage in our mission.
