CEBU CITY, Philippines (September 25, 2026)
More than 3,500 Catholic educators and education stakeholders gathered for the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines National Convention 2026. The four-day assembly, known as SUGBU 2026, took place at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel in Lahug from September 22 to 25. The convention explored the theme “Newness in Catholic Education: Charting a Constellation of Hope.”
The daily programming focused on expanding access to marginalized communities while maintaining holistic formation amid rapid social changes. Sessions covered youth empowerment, ecological concerns, and civic education. Delegates also attended the Industry Innovation Forum to study emerging education technology. Most Rev. Charlie M. Inzon, O.M.I., D.D., Archbishop of Cotabato, presided over the opening Eucharistic Celebration. The convention recognized 58 jubilarian schools for their years of service and formally welcomed new member institutions into the association.
Several Claretian educational institutions sent administrative delegations to the national gathering. Representatives from the Claret School of Quezon City, Claret School of Zamboanga City, Claret School of Maluso, and Claret School of Tumahubong attended the sessions to connect with other educators and strengthen their institutional commitment to Catholic education.
During the concluding Mass, the association formally introduced the new officers and Board of Trustees for the 2026 to 2027 term. Rev. Fr. Aldrin Maracha Castillones, CMF, took his solemn oath of office as the designated representative for Region XII. The Claretian Communications Foundation, Inc. also supported the assembly as an official sponsor. The publication team maintained an exhibition space at the venue to meet clients and provide delegates with Bibles, books, and faith enrichment resources.
